Explosion in Northern Pakistan Kills One, Injures Three

(MENAFN) A roadside explosion in northern Pakistan on Thursday claimed one life and left three others injured, including a military officer, after a vehicle struck an improvised explosive device.

According to an official statement from the Gilgit-Baltistan Information Department, the incident occurred along the Tangir Boshidas Road in Chilas. The targeted vehicle belonged to the Frontier Works Organization (FWO), a military-run engineering and construction body.

"As a result of the explosion, a local civilian driver was martyred, while three individuals, including a major, sustained minor injuries," the statement said.

Following the blast, security personnel quickly sealed off the vicinity and initiated a search and clearance operation to track down those responsible.

The attack comes a day after another deadly incident in the country’s northwest. On Wednesday, militants carried out an assault in Dera Ismail Khan in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, killing at least four police officers and wounding a deputy superintendent of police.
