Pakistan Sends Second Domestically Developed Satellite into Space
The Space & Upper Atmosphere Research Commission issued a statement indicating the satellite will deliver essential intelligence for resource allocation, administrative operations, emergency response coordination, and long-term national strategy formulation.
The EO-2 was part of a seven-satellite payload carried into designated orbital paths via a Smart Dragon-3 (SD-3) commercial launch vehicle deployed from oceanic waters, Xinhua News reported. The carrier rocket lifted off from a sea-based platform positioned off Yangjiang in Guangdong province's coastal region.
This marks Pakistan's second satellite deployment from Chinese territory, following October's launch of the HS-1 hyperspectral imaging satellite from Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre in northwestern China.
Meanwhile, Pakistan advanced its human spaceflight ambitions last week when the Astronauts Center of China narrowed its selection to two finalists for the nation's inaugural crewed space program.
The development stems from a bilateral agreement signed in February between the Space & Upper Atmosphere Research Commission and China Manned Space Agency (CMSA), establishing a framework for training two Pakistani nationals in China. Under the arrangement, one candidate will ultimately participate in a mission aboard Beijing's Tiangong orbital research facility.
